October Services SETA Pulse: Stories of Opportunity, and Skills Development

The October 2026 edition of the Services SETA Pulse Newsletter is now available, featuring stories of skills development initiatives, individual achievements and programmes making a difference in communities across South Africa.

Among the highlights is the official opening of the R14,6 million Dan Nkosi Skills Centre in eDumbe, KwaZulu-Natal, by Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Buti Manamela. The facility is bringing vocational training closer to rural communities, with programmes in house-building, cellphone repairs and entrepreneurship.

You can also learn about the launch of Skills Connect in Gqeberha by Deputy Minister Yusuf Cassim, an initiative bringing education institutions, SETAs and industry partners together to connect young people with training and employment opportunities.

The edition celebrates South African artisan Matthew Bowen, who won a silver medal in Aircraft Maintenance at WorldSkills Shanghai, and shares the experiences of 28 Services SETA-funded interns who completed their two-year workplace learning programme at the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO).

Other features include an introduction to Services SETA’s new Chief Financial Officer, Fanisa Lamola, updates on the organisation’s Project Management Masterclasses, stakeholder engagements and stories of bursary beneficiaries working towards their academic and professional goals.

The newsletter also takes readers behind the scenes through employee profiles, programme highlights and the latest developments across the services sector.
